French Broad River fishing report from The Whitewater Sportsman
4/24/12 : As smallmouth approach spawning most are now fat with eggs. The bite the last week or so has been really strong as pre-spawn feeding and warm days converged for good times on the river. Fish have still been holding in the deeper pools mostly, off the main current. Please practice catch and release for the next few weeks as smallmouth spawn. 5/01/12 : Smallmouth fishing in the French Broad River continues to be very good; trips averaged about 25 per float this week. Storms recently have stained the river, so bright colors and scented presentations have been the best bets. We are finding the most action in the shallower runs and shoals now. Spawn is coming very soon, so catch and release is recommended for the next few weeks.
