French Broad River fishing report from The Whitewater Sportsman
March 21, 2013: Late winter fishing has been very productive. We have caught (and released) many high-quality smallmouth in the 18-20" range since we started fishing again early this month. Key in this success is targeting warm afternoons, fishing deep lures, and being patient while on the river. Catch rates are much lower this time of year, but the quality of fish is usually higher.
June 22, 2013: Summertime, summertime! Looks like it has finally quit raining constantly, so now we can get out and enjoy smallmouth fishing at its finest. This season has been outstanding, all we have needed is decent water clarity and it has been on fire! Avoid the heat of mid-day and the dreaded mid-day lull for best success, and target the normal summer places like slow runs and shoals. Catch rates are pretty high now, lots of action.
